Sat 26 Aug Sci-Fi Double Feature

Racer X
Racer X

The first film will begin some time around eight as the sun disappears.  The second film will start a couple hours later (so around ten).

Some will gather ahead (between four and five) for some dinner but the main event is certainly the films.

If you would like to come for the dinner talk with Jimmy.

If you would like to come early for the optional dinner talk to me.

I am planning to make Chicken with Plums and something like ratatouille (and some black rice).

The first film will start about eight once the sun goes away.  The second about two hours later.

Sat daytime will be hot but remember to bring your warm clothes for after sunset.

I am out of Coca-Cola so if that’s your movie bev better bring some.

In the end we showed only the first film (Free Guy).  It’s a shame because the second film (Boss Level) is certainly the better film and the weather was perfect (no jackets required into the wee hours of the night).  See you at the next one!

Lego 2 Movie Night

Movie night where we will show at least the second Lego movie. Maybe more. It’s a mystery…

2008-07-18 The Bank Dick
2008-07-18 The Bank Dick

I will make some stuffed zucchini boats and eat ahead of the movie. Come early for a relaxing dinner under the sky or come about nine and get ready for the movie(s).

19:00 come eat some dinner or bbq
~21:30 or near sunset start movie magic

I’ll post more data as I’m able.

This is the Perpetual Peavine Alley What-to-Bring Page.

It get chilly when the sun goes down. Do not be fooled!

My mint is in big-time. If you bring some nice rum and some limes we could make mojitos. But come early so we can make them before the movie chaos starts.

16 July Friday Movie Night

Been a while since we saw a movie together.

19:00 BBQ
21:00 the sun goes down

Not without My Handbag  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_Without_My_Handbag
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_(2009_animated_film)
Spy  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spy_(2015_film)

A couple of animated films and an action comedy film.

Racer X
Racer X

Come grill something beforehand if you’d like.  Certainly arrive before sunset to get a spot on the grass for the movies.

What to bring?
Seating:  Camping chair, blanket, or similar.  I have many to share.
Food:  There is a grill available.  I’ll make popcorn.  If you have any special kitchen needs, send Jimmy a message or ask here.
Bevs:  If you can sip it, it’s good.  Share if you’d like.
Friends:  Cool friends are great.
Pets:  My cat has total dominion over the yard and is restricted by a 28 foot retractable leash.  Fucking with the cat is a no-no.  That is the most important pet rule.
Money:  The show is free but you will likely want to donate to the Me (and I’m ok as I’m employed).  We did have a new bulb fundraiser once.
Love:  Bring it!  Bring it all!

Remember, there is a 20f difference between day temps and night temps.  Wear long pants, bring a jacket, do the layers.  I do have several blankets but plan accordingly.

Definitely dress for chilly weather for when that sun goes down tomorrow evening.

If you plan to come for the pre-bq, let me know so I can plan accordingly.  If you want to roast weenies, maybe ask here for someone to bring buns.  “We’re all in this together, kid.”  Ask me all the questions.

Things I hope to cook:  a few sausages, a few ribs, a few chicken thighs, country scones, and a rice dish.  And popcorn.  Lots of popcorn.

Busy day… Scones, pie, sausages, chicken.  Dishes.

Strange things happen in my kitchen, to be sure, but this is the first spontaneous cake.

Thanks to everyone for coming.  Excellent movie conditions.  We ended up skipping 9 (due to some technical difficulties after delays related to new equipment) and jumped from Not without My Handbag into Spy.  Very much fun.  Good friends, good food, good films.  See you all at the next one!

PA 17 Aug movie night

A movie night in the summer night!  Thinking maybe a double feature of Speed Racer and Blade Runner 2049.  Subject to change.  More to follow.

Looks like the weather is finally turning to our favor.  Saturday should be good!

I’ll be grilling out back about six.  Feel free to come grill something for yourself.  Otherwise I’ll see you after seven!

When the sun goes down it will get chilly.  Dress accordingly.  I have some blankets.

If you come down the alley, park on the street.  You cannot miss us.  If you come from 24th, it’s the house with the blue tarp in the front yard.

Go, Speed Racer!

Watch out for Racer X!

Well, we only watched Speed Racer, but it was epic!  Thanks to everyone who made the show.  Good times!

Before the movie I did play randomly from the film Loving Vincent as the silent cartoon portion of the evening.

Blade Runner Sat 5 Aug Movie Night

This is likely to be the only movie night this summer since I am putting on five (five?!) music shows.  If you were thinking this was your summer for catching a movie night at Peavine Alley, this is your big chance!

It’s supposed to be 89 on Friday and 84 on Saturday.  Saturday evening will be excellent for watching a movie but I would suggest bring a jacket.  I will have many blankets for those without sufficient internal heat regulation!

Cartoons will start around dusk and the movie will begin whenever it gets dark.  The sun is going to set at 20:38 on Saturday.  So maybe cartoons about eight and movie about nine?  Something like that.  Come early and get your chairs or blankets arranged while there is still some light!

I have a popcorn machine.  A real one.  No shit.

If anyone wants to bring a non-group member that’s fine, they just won’t likely be able to see the event (and it’s contents) until they become a group member.  Membership has it’s privileges!

Feel free to bring snacks. I will have some hot dogs to roast in the fire. Sticks!

Feel free to bring something to grill if you’d like.  Snacks are appropriate but not required.  I have my popcorn machine and I will have some hotdogs available to cook on sticks.  You may want something to drink and there will be a random selection of beverages here as well.

I have a dozen hot dogs and some (24) buns.  Should I get more?

Woohoo!

Blade Runner Sat 5 Aug Movie Night

Excellent turnout; thanks, everyone!

Meet the Will: A Movie Knight Adventure

Old Bill and I are in discussions concerning our movie options.  Depending on what we pick it could be one long-assed epic movie or a double-feature.  We’ll keep you posted.

What I can say is that William is visiting from Shanghai with his wonderful spouse and we are happy to host this get-together of friends old and new.

More details to follow (duh).

Good-Night Movie Night Saturday Night

Last (and only) movie night of the summer backyard this year.  Sorry about the short notice but the weather has been sketchy.  Saturday is going to be nice:  sunny and nice during the day, so dry and temperate in the dark.

18:00 optional grilling hour
19:00 Find spot on grass and squint at invisible cartoons
20:00 Guardians of the Galaxy
22:00 (or so) World’s End
00:00 lots of hugs

I have popcorn on demand, hot dogs and sticks and fire, sangria, and iced tea.  There are rumors of cake.  There will be a nice table for shared nibbles.

Put your questions to me.  See you near sunset.

No, I will not be showing a musical this Saturday. Though it is tempting…

Yes, periodic napping during the films is allowed.

Sangria is macerating:  4 bottles of decent cab s, 2 angelo pears, 1 gorgeous peach, and 2 gorgeous plums (seriously beautiful specimens).

If you would like to grill some food, you may want to get here a little early.  Just let me know so I’m ready for you.

Yes, you can bring your cool friends.  Give me a shout if you have questions.

Iced tea is in the sun and the sangria is pretty much ready.  See you in this evening.

The famous “What to Bring” post.

1.  something to sit upon (camp chair, chaise lounge, Persian rug)
2.  something to keep you warm (coat, blanket, hookers, rum)
3.  snacks (more below)
4.  sips (more below)

I will have my chiminea burning and I have hotdog sticks (and dogs).  I also have my gas grill available (and a full kitchen for that matter).  These can all be put at your disposal if you’d like to prepare something.

I also have a full-on popcorn machine.  How much popcorn we can make is only limited by how much time I have between doing other things and whether anyone else knows how to use the thing (they are pretty simple but require some skill).

I’m making sangria.

Others are encouraged to bring things and to post what they are bringing here (so we don’t end up with 37 varieties of carnitas and seven buckets of vodka—too much of a good thing to be sure).

There is plenty of room on the grass for folks to plant a blanket or a chair.  I have several chairs but if you have one, please consider bringing it.  Same for warming blankets:  I have several but please consider bringing something.  It will get chillier as the evening progresses.

My hookah will be set up in the corner.  It uses Arabic tobacco (tobacco with molasses, spices, and fruit).  Smokers of other varieties should be considerate of the air space of others (hence the hookah is in the corner).

Um, what else?  Probably other stuff.  Post your questions and I will answer them.

Donations are accepted but never required (they help me pay for bulbs and movies and propane and popcorn).  I’d rather have you here for free than not here because you didn’t have a couple of extra dollars.  (And I usually forget to pass the tip jar around anyway.)

Getting down to the wire.  Starting to haul things into the yard.  Better to call me at this point since I may or may not see Fb.  Also, does anyone have charcoal for a hookah?  I’m apparently out.

Starting first film (Guardians of the Galaxy) in five.

Second movie will be more like half past ten.  Lots of popcorn available!

Second movie (World’s End) in five.

Good-Night Movie Night Saturday Night

Rain?  Ok.  Did not see that coming.

Thanks, everyone, for coming out and enjoying this double-feature under the black blanket of night.  We sneaked this in like threading a needle, apparently.

RED Twins Movietime at Peavine Alley

Please note the new date: 26 July Saturday.

Back by popular demand, a double feature of comic book movie miraculousness. Not everyone retires to a life of quietude. Some of us retire with extreme prejudice aligned against us. This usually leads to blowing shit up.

I am thrilled they made two of these and that they are both so great. They’ll probably make a third, but for now we have these two.

https://www.facebook.com/events/313008002208736/

The weather dogs are pissing on our dahlias! Same Peatime; new peadate: 26 July 19:00. Here’s to dryer days.

Reminder: we gather in my backyard for these great films one week from today, Saturday 26 July. Sunset is scheduled for 20:52 according to the Pacific Science Center. Come early and stake your claim on a small plot of my land.

Though it did not rain hard last night it rained long. Next Saturday is predicted to be sunny and 76, thus moving this to next week is looking like an excellent decision. See you all on Saturday. Questions? Send them my way.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on sangria. I often make it for these events, but only some of the time is it popular. Would you like me to make sangria for Saturday?

Looks like we will have a pretty nice turn-out tomorrow. See you all then. (I will make some sangria, sheesh.)

Sangria’s in the… jug. Have a great day in the sun and I’ll see you come evening.

This just in: Tonight is the Torchlight Parade in Seattle. Looks like 99 is closed as well. Plan accordingly. Once you get here, I can guarantee relaxation. Drive safe. See you soon.

So, I have two hammock stations and only one hammock. If you have a hammock and you’d like to bring it, give me a call (my phone is on my About page) and we’ll discuss the details. Nearly any hammock should work. Let me know.

A big thank you to everyone who attended for a very successful double-feature. Thanks to Robert Hartley for bringing the big Wagyū to the grill. Thanks to Rachel Hartley for doing the same with her garden-fresh yellow squash. Thanks to Nize King for grilling a million sausages (he is now Tong-Master Kwon). Thanks to Patrick Gaillard for helping haul the gear out and then back in again. Thanks to Craig and Hannah J. Price for the additional sausages.

And the Red Vines. And the mini cinnamon rolls. And…

Yes, thanks to all. It was a great night with a pair of great films.

Oh, and I made five packs of popcorn in my machine which I believe is a Peavine Alley record.

Two Films for the Price of One Birthday

There are likely a lot of folks who make claims to being born during June.  I am not among them, but John is.  Let’s have a little movie madness and celebration.

rainbowmechunicornmylittlepony
rainbowmechunicornmylittlepony

I have selected two films.  The first film is a nerd coming of age film.  Cast your spells early.

Unicorn City

The second is a heart warming tale of giant monsters kicking the crap out of giant robots.  You can sing along even if there are no songs.

Pacific Rim

More to follow about food, of course.  Send questions my way or post them below.

Kids are welcome.  When they become unruly, of course, the flying robot my little unicorn will eat them.  But that doesn’t happen very often.

So here is the usual stuff about what to bring.

1. something to sit upon (camp chair, chaise lounge, persian rug)
2. something to keep you warm (coat, blanket, hookers, rum)
3. snacks (more below)
4. sips (more below)

I also have a full-on popcorn machine.  How much popcorn we can make is only limited by how much time I have between doing other things and whether anyone else knows how to use the thing (they are pretty simple but require some skill).

I typically make sangria though I haven’t picked up the wine or fruit yet.

One week from today.  Very excited.  My address is on my About page (visible to my friends). Otherwise you can find us three houses South of Treasa Sweek (orange porch light).  If you get confused, walk down the alley until you find the pea vines (and strawberries!).

We are in good shape for tonight.  Weather is back in order.  I need to pick up some hotdog buns and some wine (must make sangria still), but I’m taking a half day to get ready.  See many of your around seven.  The second film (and this is just a guess) will likely begin around eleven (assuming the first film starts around nine).  You second-movie goers should text me if you are worried about missing the beginning.

My address is on my About page.  If you are not my friend, I live a couple of houses South of John Walseth and Treasa Sweek (orange porch light).  Or from the alley you’ll see the big projector screen on the side of my garage.  Looking forward to seeing you all.

Two Films for the Price of One Birthday

Still amazed that Treasa Sweek made FOUR PIES!  Delicious.  Thanks to everyone who came last night.  We had loads of fun.

Rekopis znaleziony w Saragossie (The Saragossa Manuscript)

This is a small capacity movie night.  We will be watching the film in my small theater.  I’m guessing a comfortable limit is perhaps eight.

Let’s have some snacks or real food.  We’ll be in session for a good chunk of time.  We’ll take breaks periodically to eat and chat and be merry with refills.

I have set the start time at 17:00.  The closer we start the film to five, the closer to nine we might finish.

Let me know if there are any questions.  My address and phone are on my About page.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059643/

I picked up two nice growlers at Chuck’s.  That’s a nice start.

How about if we do a bread, cheese, and cured meats thing?  That would make it easy to bring a little something each and get a nice spread at the end.  Thoughts?

Ok, if the movie is to start at five let’s get together about four.  That way we can get our snacks in order and butter our popcorn appropriately.  Then BANG! movie time.

Eric says he’ll be bringing some bread and cheese tomorrow.

I picked up some Stilton and a nice double-cream and an assortment of cured items.  Oh, and some pears.  Any questions?  Ring me.

The Saragossa Manuscript

That was fun.
