All things Peavine Alley.

Folk the Fourth, Mouth and Forker!

Another Peavine day of freedom!

Schedule listed below (times are estimates).

As usual it’s your basic picnic bbq potluck grassy gnoll sort of rock and roll show.  All donations go to the musicians.  We recommend $20 per person.  Probably they will have stuff you can buy as well.  I’ll post some links here and there below.

I will be making my usual (unusual) pork loin.  Please do make comments here about what you are bringing so not everyone brings spaghetti.  I mean, many of you COULD bring spaghetti.  But someone should probably bring something to go with it.  What’s your preferred potluck portable comestible?

You all know by now how much I enjoy doing these shows.  It pleases me to no end to bring groups of friends together to enjoy some of the best musicians we can muster, and for all of us to eat and drink and smile from ear to ear.  Thank you all again for an amazing show.  Thanks especially to the musicians!  Thanks as well to the food bearers and to the generous friends who toss their hard-earned money into the money bucket for the musicians.  I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the next show (20 July).  Have a great time!

Szlachetka & Co 13 Oct Sat

RSVP is REQUIRED. This show has limited seating. We have 24 seats available for the show. Tag Jimmy with the number of seats you wish.

Doors at three; music beginning at four.

As usual it’s your basic indoor potluck rock and roll show. All donations go to the musicians. Probably they will have stuff you can buy as well. I’ll post some links here and there below.

I will be making something but what depends on the weather. Please do make comments here about what you are bringing so not everyone brings spaghetti. I mean, many of you COULD bring spaghetti. But someone should probably bring something to go with it. What’s your preferred potluck portable comestible?

Questions? Ask them below or message one of the moderators!

Potluck:  Can you make that thing you always love to make?  That would be great for sharing!  There is a grill available.  If you have any special needs, send Jimmy a message or ask here.

Bevs:  If you can sip it, it’s good.  Share if you’d like.  I always make iced-tea.

Friends:  Cool friends are great.  I just need an exact seat-count; talk to Jimmy Cook.

Pets:  Not for the indoor shows, please.

Love:  Bring it!  Bring it all!

Shirts and shoes required?  This isn’t a restaurant; they’re not even recommended!

Folks have been asking about donations.  Twenty dollars seems to be about the going rate.  Keep in mind donations are voluntary, but also keep in mind all of the donations go the the musician.  Peavine Alley takes nothing.  Peavine Alley only gives.

Please let me if you post any videos of this show to YouTube so I can add them to my Peavine Alley list.

Pop Cycle Summer Closer!

The Great Cycle of Pop is going to punk up the Alley with a loud (10/10) show (Paul!) come this presumably hot August Saturday afternoon. Kiddie pool in effect!

14:00 gates open (come get your patch of grass)
15:00 Jared Mitchell & The Wingtips
16:00 Pop Cycle

As usual it’s your basic picnic bbq potluck grassy knoll sort of rock and roll show.  All donations go to the musicians.  Probably they will have stuff you can buy as well.  I’ll post some links here and there below.

I will be making my usual (unusual) pork loin.  Please do make comments here about what you are bringing so not everyone brings spaghetti.  I mean, many of you COULD bring spaghetti.  But someone should probably bring something to go with it.  What’s your preferred potluck portable comestible?

Well, at least it’s not too hot.  Pork spices:  salt, garlic powder, cinnamon, cloves, cayenne.

Pork brine: 16 limes juiced, molasses, salt, cloves, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks.

If you haven’t heard Pop Cycle, their sound borrows liberally from both punk and pop music.  You will heard echoes of the Cramps (and maybe a cover? or two?), XTC, and splashes of Robyn Hitchcock.  I know you’re thinking “what happens when you mix the Cramps and XTC?” and the answer to that is pretty fucking dangerous!  Gonna be a good time.

Also pretty excited to hear Jared do his thing.  I’ve not yet had the pleasure, but our dear friend Mr the Owl says they can really bring it.  Best Peavine show yet?  You decide!

This was a very personal show for me.  It was like a celebration of what I love about doing these backyard shows, and I want to thank each of you for coming.  It wasn’t intended to be a personal experience, but that’s what happens some of the time.  It was tremendous; I feel amazing; and I want you to know that I appreciate what each of you has brought to my life–and not just the small part played by this great event yesterday.  New friends, old friends, pork loin, and hugs. Is there more to life?

Pork loin brine:  grapefruit (7 zest, 6.5 juice), salt, pomegranate molasses, bay leaves, mint, tarragon, and maybe a couple blades of grass due to vigorous tarragon trimming in the garden.

Just a note to say the musicians thrive on your generous donations. All of the money you donate goes to the musicians (the house takes nothing). The show is of course free, but we do suggest you toss $15-25 per person at those musicians. This is a festival after all! They may also have merchandise for sale.

It’s a little late in coming but I want to take a moment to thank all who participated in this wonderful celebration. The line-up was terrific and the crowd was enthusiastic. Not to mention the wonderful food. Thanks, as usual, to Tobias TheOwl for continuing to help me find great acts for these shows. Together we all work to make these celebrations excellent. Thank you all!

Paul and Sean Sat 2 June 14:00

Paul Benoit and Sean Divine have agreed to dust off their favorite instruments of musical destruction and maybe dust off some of their musical friends (friends with instruments!) and throw down here at Peavine Alley! Good times are guaranteed!

Line-up (times are estimates):

14:00 Gates open — get your patch of green!
15:00 Paul & Sean & friends with instruments?!
15:45 Old fashioned rest
16:15 Paul & Sean & friends with instruments?!
17:00 Paul races to the studio to record his next masterpiece!

I will be making my usual (unusual) pork loin. Please do make comments here about what you are bringing so not everyone brings spaghetti. I mean, many of you COULD bring spaghetti. But someone should probably bring something to go with it. What’s your preferred potluck portable comestible?

What to bring? You may want a blanket or a chair to sit upon. Will it be warm? Maybe you will want something to snuggle? Your coolest friends are welcome, but please let me know so I can predict numbers. Want to bring a posse? Contact me and I can make it easier for you.

Questions? Ask them below or message one of the moderators!

Pork loin brine:  honey, 16 limes, oregano, cloves, peppercorns, soy sauce, bay leaf.

People be askin’ me ’bout stuff.

Bring my pet? Jackson Reinhardt, aka the cat, has total dominion over the yard. He roams his yard on a 25′ retractable leash. Respect the cat.

Bring my child? Kids are cool. Keep in mind that Jackson has total dominion over the yard and doesn’t want to be chased. Also, don’t kill the plants.

Bring my instrument? The day belongs to the schedule musicians (and their guests), but after Paul leaves for his recording session it’s an open yard.

Anything I ought to bring? Optional items include… food for the potluck, money for the musicians (maybe fifteen bucks?), a blanket or chair for sitting, maybe a blanket or jacket for when it cools, and your best amigo.

Be awesome and see you Saturday.

What an incredible day! Thanks to all who brought food. We had a terrific spread. Thanks to the musicians. It was an incredible afternoon of music. The weather pulled together and it was a fantastic day. Many good and new friends as well. Just about perfect, really. Thanks!

Jimmy Gets Older Every Year

I will be making a pork loin roll and some chicken liver mousse and some apple sauce.  Delicious!

Table-top games likely.

More information to follow.

Still need to get some groceries before the weekend but I have obtained most of what I need.  I’ll be preparing the mousse and the apple sauce a day ahead (on Friday) because it makes sense.  Let me if you would like to bring something or what you are bringing!

Brine (pork):  chicken stock, salt, pomegranate molasses, apple cider vinegar, bay leaves, white pepper, lemon.

Pork rolled and vacuum sealed.

Apple sauce is ready.

Mousse is prepared (cooked) and ready for whipping.

Well, that’s a pretty clean house.

Pork loin rolls are in the sous vide!

How about a little fire?!

Thanks, everybody!  I had a good birthday party.  I have a good collection of pals!

New Year Games Night

Good friends and some bubbly to accompany table-top games like Sortie and Valley of the Pharaohs. Snacks and maybe I’ll make some proper food. Not sure yet. More information to follow.

This is at least our fourth year doing a game night to celebrate the new year. How many people come will tell which game(s) get played. If you have any questions, ask Jimmy or post in the Event and let the community respond.

Regardless of what you do, be safe and have fun!

I was thinking of making chicken curry.  Feel free to voice any thoughts about games, snacks, or food.

I picked up some sparkling rose.  Good for what ails you!

I am on target for making chicken curry (in a vaguely Thai style).

If you are bringing some food or drink, please post about it.  Folks are asking me what to bring and I don’t know what to suggest since I don’t know what you are bringing!  Speak up!

I also have a couple bottles of vinho verde.  Thanks, Russell Lowke!

New Year Games Night

With the last of the gamers gone I’m going to choose bed over cleaning.  Don’t judge me!  Thanks everyone for making such a fun night!

More information to below.

Take a listen to some of John’s music from previous Peavine Alley shows.  (Yes, he is using my guitar(s) and amp.  He rode in on a bicycle and rocked like a naked saint.)

Here is my review of Backyards.

You Think My Backyard Is Cool, but John Elliott’s Backyards Rocks

I will not have time to smoke a pork loin.  Instead I will make some killer goulash.  Seriously, it will blow your mind.  I will have a fire in the chimenea if anyone wants to grill something or cook a hotdog or whatever.  You wondering what to bring?  I’d guess it’s a wine and cheese and bread and fruit sort of evening.  Questions?

I know there is a lot of political bullshit clogging your feed right now, but there is a real-life event happening and if you are not looking directly at it you are about to miss it.  Something beautiful and amazing is going to happen right here.  Live a little.  Love a little.

Thanks again for everyone who was able to attend.  It was a great evening and a terrific pleasure to host John once again (three times!).  Please do link any YouTube videos my way so I can add them to my Peavine Alley playlist.

Blade Runner Sat 5 Aug Movie Night

This is likely to be the only movie night this summer since I am putting on five (five?!) music shows.  If you were thinking this was your summer for catching a movie night at Peavine Alley, this is your big chance!

It’s supposed to be 89 on Friday and 84 on Saturday.  Saturday evening will be excellent for watching a movie but I would suggest bring a jacket.  I will have many blankets for those without sufficient internal heat regulation!

Cartoons will start around dusk and the movie will begin whenever it gets dark.  The sun is going to set at 20:38 on Saturday.  So maybe cartoons about eight and movie about nine?  Something like that.  Come early and get your chairs or blankets arranged while there is still some light!

Final Cut

I have a popcorn machine.  A real one.  No shit.

If anyone wants to bring a non-group member that’s fine, they just won’t likely be able to see the event (and it’s contents) until they become a group member.  Membership has it’s privileges!

Feel free to bring snacks. I will have some hot dogs to roast in the fire. Sticks!

Feel free to bring something to grill if you’d like.  Snacks are appropriate but not required.  I have my popcorn machine and I will have some hotdogs available to cook on sticks.  You may want something to drink and there will be a random selection of beverages here as well.

I have a dozen hot dogs and some (24) buns.  Should I get more?

Woohoo!

8 Jul Peavine Alley Big Boom Bash

Our annual big Independence related show! At least five or six amazing acts! And some adorable dancing bears (approximately)! As usual it’s your basic picnic bbq potluck grassy gnoll sort of rock and roll show.

I will be making my usual (unusual) pork loin. Please do make comments here about what you are bringing so not everyone brings sausages. You don’t want another sausage fest, do you?

It’s all about the money, except it’s not. These shows are free and we intend to keep it that way. That being said, we also want to ensure the musicians are rewarded for their hard work. Let’s make sure we can help them fuel their questionable-looking vans so they can make it their next gigs by dropping $15 or $20 into their little buckets!

What to bring? You may want a blanket or a chair to sit upon. Will it be warm? Maybe you will want something to snuggle? Your coolest friends are welcome, but please let me know so I can predict numbers.

Very exciting.

To join Peavine Alley: https://www.facebook.com/groups/peavinealley/

Note:  Seafood Fest is today.  Avoid downtown Ballard.

If you would like to grill, my gas grill will be available for the entire show. My chimenea will also be available for grilling but not until after the pork loin is done.

Tea is in the sun; pork is in the smoke.

Musicians:  I have mics and cables and amps and a PA.  I also have a cajon and a snare and some other random percussion.  If there is anything you need, let me know.  I’ll do what I am able.

The pork loin is enbrined:  chicken stock, sour cherry juice, balsamic, pomegranate molasses, lemon juice, bay leaves, salt.

I have half a dozen lemons available if anyone needs lemons.

I have put some pork ribs into the sous vide cooker at 137f (probably for 24 hours).

Another reason to come?  Witness my reading of the Declaration of Independence!

Just to be clear, I have been doing these readings for more than a decade and this is not aimed at any particular idiots which may or may not exist.

Remember the potluck is an important element to these events.  Are you thinking of what you may bring?  Let us know!  Not only is it fun to see what others are bringing, you may inspire another.  Be inspirational!

I’m smoking a pork loin in my peculiar way.

8 Jul Peavine Alley Big Boom Bash (PA)

It’s been a busy summer.  So much to do for the Alley.  You have all been great!  Thanks for making this show a fantastic success.  Thanks, especially, to the musicians who come and play music and meet fans and eat food just like the rest of us.  And of course thanks to Harry Oesterreicher and Tobias TheOwl for helping me bring these shows together.  Maybe the world is a little better for our efforts.  Thank you all.
