Good-Night Movie Night Saturday Night

https://www.facebook.com/events/890202821068414/

Last (and only) movie night of the summer backyard this year. Sorry about the short notice but the weather has been sketchy. Saturday is going to be nice: sunny and nice during the day, so dry and temperate in the dark.

18:00 optional grilling hour
19:00 Find spot on grass and squint at invisible cartoons
20:00 Guardians of the Galaxy
22:00 (or so) World’s End
00:00 lots of hugs

I have popcorn on demand, hot dogs and sticks and fire, sangria, and iced tea. There are rumors of cake. There will be a nice table for shared nibbles.

Put your questions to me. See you near sunset.

Rain? Ok. Did not see that coming.

Thanks, everyone, for coming out and enjoying this double-feature under the black blanket of night. We sneaked this in like threading a needle, apparently.

Getting down to the wire. Starting to haul things into the yard. Better to call me at this point since I may or may not see Fb. Also, does anyone have charcoal for a hookah? I’m apparently out.

Iced tea is in the sun and the sangria is pretty much ready. See you in this evening.

Sangria is macerating: 4 bottles of decent cab s, 2 angelo pears, 1 gorgeous peach, and 2 gorgeous plums (seriously beautiful specimens).

RED Twins Movietime at Peavine Alley

Please note the new date: 26 July Saturday.

Back by popular demand, a double feature of comic book movie miraculousness. Not everyone retires to a life of quietude. Some of us retire with extreme prejudice aligned against us. This usually leads to blowing shit up.

I am thrilled they made two of these and that they are both so great. They’ll probably make a third, but for now we have these two.

https://www.facebook.com/events/313008002208736/

The weather dogs are pissing on our dahlias! Same Peatime; new peadate: 26 July 19:00. Here’s to dryer days.

Reminder: we gather in my backyard for these great films one week from today, Saturday 26 July. Sunset is scheduled for 20:52 according to the Pacific Science Center. Come early and stake your claim on a small plot of my land.

Though it did not rain hard last night it rained long. Next Saturday is predicted to be sunny and 76, thus moving this to next week is looking like an excellent decision. See you all on Saturday. Questions? Send them my way.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on sangria. I often make it for these events, but only some of the time is it popular. Would you like me to make sangria for Saturday?

Looks like we will have a pretty nice turn-out tomorrow. See you all then. (I will make some sangria, sheesh.)

Sangria’s in the… jug. Have a great day in the sun and I’ll see you come evening.

This just in: Tonight is the Torchlight Parade in Seattle. Looks like 99 is closed as well. Plan accordingly. Once you get here, I can guarantee relaxation. Drive safe. See you soon.

So, I have two hammock stations and only one hammock. If you have a hammock and you’d like to bring it, give me a call (my phone is on my About page) and we’ll discuss the details. Nearly any hammock should work. Let me know.

A big thank you to everyone who attended for a very successful double-feature. Thanks to Robert Hartley for bringing the big Wagyū to the grill. Thanks to Rachel Hartley for doing the same with her garden-fresh yellow squash. Thanks to Nize King for grilling a million sausages (he is now Tong-Master Kwon). Thanks to Patrick Gaillard for helping haul the gear out and then back in again. Thanks to Craig and Hannah J. Price for the additional sausages.

And the Red Vines. And the mini cinnamon rolls. And…

Yes, thanks to all. It was a great night with a pair of great films.

Oh, and I made five packs of popcorn in my machine which I believe is a Peavine Alley record.

Two Films for the Price of One Birthday

There are likely a lot of folks who make claims to being born during June. I am not among them, but John is. Let’s have a little movie madness and celebration.

I have selected two films. The first film is a nerd coming of age film. Cast your spells early.

Unicorn City

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1734589/

The second is a heart warming tale of giant monsters kicking the crap out of giant robots. You can sing along even if there are no songs.

Pacific Rim

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1663662/

More to follow about food, of course. Send questions my way or post them below.

Kids are welcome. When they become unruly, of course, the flying robot my little unicorn will eat them. But that doesn’t happen very often.

One week from today. Very excited. My address is on my About page (visible to my friends). Otherwise you can find us three houses South ofTreasa Sweek (orange porch light). If you get confused, walk down the alley until you find the pea vines (and strawberries!).

Weather took a turn for the better. Yay for us!

We are in good shape for tonight. Weather is back in order. I need to pick up some hotdog buns and some wine (must make sangria still), but I’m taking a half day to get ready. See many of your around seven. The second film (and this is just a guess) will likely begin around eleven (assuming the first film starts around nine). You second-movie goers should text me if you are worried about missing the beginning.

Still amazed that Treasa Sweek made FOUR PIES! Delicious. Thanks to everyone who came last night. We had loads of fun.

This is a small capacity movie night. We will be watching the film in my small theater. I’m guessing a comfortable limit is perhaps eight.

Let’s have some snacks or real food. We’ll be in session for a good chunk of time. We’ll take breaks periodically to eat and chat and be merry with refills.

I have set the start time at 17:00. The closer we start the film to five, the closer to nine we might finish.

Let me know if there are any questions. My address and phone are on my About page.

So, I’ve talked with a couple of you already about this. I am putting together a movie night for a special select group of people. I don’t mean to sound elitist but this is a film that only certain folks are going to take an interest in: it’s black and white, it’s subtitled, it’s three and a half hours long, and it’s a really complicated bit of film work.

Since it’s winter this will be indoors (duh). So the more limited scoped audience will be great being that my theater room is small (I’d guess maximum eight humans).

I don’t have a date yet. Here is the film. Comment or message me if you are interested.

Let’s look at 9 November (Saturday) for our intimate if intellectual movie night. I have confirmed Eric (not on Fb), Matt Bollinger, Bob Gaszak, andPeter Braitsch and all in; and Ryan See is also interested. The idea is that we break this 3.5 hour movie up with a few intermissions so we can use the bathroom, refill beers and bowls, and compare notes, and play musical chairs. Should be fun.

I won’t be back on Facebook so if you want one of these last couple of seats you’ll want to call me. Tonight’s movie:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059643/

Hello, hello, hello. I still have a couple spots available for tomorrow’s (indoor) movie night. Let me know if you are interested.

I still have a couple of seats available for Saturday’s movie night. If you are interested let me know and I’ll add you to the (very exclusive) list.

I picked up two nice growlers at Chuck’s. That’s a nice start.

How about if we do a bread, cheese, and cured meats thing? That would make it easy to bring a little something each and get a nice spread at the end. Thoughts?

Ok, if the movie is to start at five let’s get together about four. That way we can get our snacks in order and butter our popcorn appropriately. Then BANG! movie time.

Eric says he’ll be bringing some bread and cheese tomorrow.

I picked up some Stilton and a nice double-cream and an assortment of cured items. Oh, and some pears. Any questions? Ring me.

That was fun.

The Great Gort Movie Night Reunion

Carl Gort and family will be in the Seattle area for (approximately) the month of August. He would like to get together for a movie night with many of his old chums and perhaps a few new friends.

Let’s be very potlucky! What better way to alleviate the awkward lagging conversations than to talk about your recipe?

As usual, I will have both my chiminea burning and my gas grill available for cooking. I have lots of cooking equipment at my disposal, so feel free to get in touch with me if you had any particular requirements.

Also, the usual note applies. If you have a favorite camping chair or blanket for laying out in the grass, please bring it along. I imagine it will still be pretty warm at night, but you may as well bring a jacket along to ward off any chills.

If you have any questions, please ask Lisa Goshorn, Tami Wolff, or me (I can’t tag myself). My contact information is on my About page here on Fb.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you.

Films TBD. (One of them may well be The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.)

https://www.facebook.com/events/514174445323113/

RED is another possible movie. I’m so pleased they are making a sequel.

This is about a week and a half away. Are there any thoughts about food? I’ll be making some sort of fire-roasted meat, I suppose.

Hooray for today! See you all soon. Remember, my address and telephone are on my About page here on Facebook. You should call me if you need anything as I will not likely be back on Facebook before the show tonight (19:00 hours!–that’s 7 PM).

What a great evening with friends. We watched some Brothers Quay and then Buckaroo Banzai. For those interested in such matters, it was flank steak coated in salt, cayenne, and Spanish paprika and boneless leg of lamb stuffed with (from my garden) rosemary, thyme, and mint and (not from my garden) ginger in syrup. Both were prepared using my chiminea (the lamb down the throat and the steak grilled on top). Thanks to everyone who brought anything, and thanks to everyone for coming.

Canceled: Movie Night Celebration of School Year Ending and Summer Starting and Whatnot

Double-Feature!

We shall see what the magic chest of movies has to offer.

Did I mention I have a real popcorn machine now?

I’m outside now and it’s half past nine. It’s dark. I’m guessing we can start the first film somewhere around half past eight. As such I changed the start time to seven. Get here and get your little quadrilateral of grass.

I haven’t shown Princess Bride yet so that’s a fine possibility. Regardless the first film will be family friendly since some folks have said they’d like to bring their little people. We can negotiate later over the second film.

Questions? You know where to find me.

RSVP, Merci!

https://www.facebook.com/events/164474017060768/

Looks like it’s a family affair. Anticipate at least a couple of youngins. Princess Bride and The Avengers are both possibilities.

I have just finished building a (rickety) shelving thing for the popcorn machine so that’s ready.

If you would like to bring some food of any sort, I will (as always) have my gas grill ready and a fire in my chimenea (great for hotdogs). The banquet table awaits.

Just a little reminder to bring a blanket and a camping chair (or whatever) because I only have a few of each.

Current weather for Saturday: Mostly sunny and 70. Should be a fine evening for a backyard movie under the stars.

There are a number of important conflicts with this Saturday date. Cecilieand I have decided it makes for a better date if we move the event one week. I will change the event details now; the new date is Saturday 22 June. Go celebrate Father’s Day this weekend and we’ll see you next.

Well, with the date change I may have lost my audience. Unless I can get some firm commitments I’ll cancel this movie night. It’s just no fun if I can’t have about eight guests with me and C. Protest if you want me to keep the night going.

Sorry, friends. Changing the date didn’t work out so well. I’ll cancel this movie night this evening.
